18th Carrom Euro Cup in London
The growing standard of the game of Carrom could be seen once again in 18th Euro Cup, held from 8th to 10th August 2014 in London. A total number of ninety (90) players from 10 European countries took part in the competitions, which continued for three (3) days.
The highlight of the tournament was the final of Singles between Karnal Abdin of U.K. and Pierre Dubois of France. While after 11 rounds Karnal Abdin had sealed his position in the final, three players Pierre Dubois (France), Pereira Fabian (France) and Mehedi Hassan (Sweden) with 18 points each were waiting in the line to fight Karnal in the final. Finally on the basis of Buchlz points of 166 of Pierre Dubois against 160 of Pereira Fabian and 156 of Mehedi Hassan it was decided that Pierre has qualified for the final. Both finalists Karnal Abdin and Pierre Dubois made from European standard excellent performnce. While Karnal Abdin dominated slightly in the first game and won it with a score of 25:14, Pierre Dubois gave no chance to his opponent from the very begining and secured the second game in his favour with 21:06 . The third and deciding game however was fought bitterly for each and every point. In the last board of the match young pierre had every chance to win. After securing most of his Carrommen Pierre pocketed the queen , but his striker followed the queen in the pocket and he had a double due. Had their not been a double due he could have covered the queen easily and win the match. Now in his next stroke Pierre failed and taking the advantage Karnal Abdin pocketed and covered the queen to win the final match and lift the Single's Trophy.
This is the 9th win of Single's Finals for Karnal Abdin in 18 Euro Cup tournaments so far.
